ISHALC and the Latin American Standing Committee for Crime Prevention (COPLAD), a programme of the United Nations Latin American Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (ILANUD), held the International Forum – Corruption in Latin America in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in November 2017, attended by Inter-American Court of Human Rights judge Raúl Zaffaroni, Brazilian Supreme Court justice Roberto Barroso, ILANUD director Elias Carranza, the Austrian ambassador to Portugal Thomas Stelzer, and officials from Argentina and Brazil.
The forum set out to assess the impact of corruption in Latin America and the prospects for tackling it, given that most of the 19 Latin American countries face serious problems with drug trafficking, money laundering and corruption.
It also served as a preparatory colloquium for the International Forum – Human Security in Latin America, held in 2018.
